Dr. phil nat. Byron Oppliger is a community pharmacist and researcher. He joined the Institute of Primary Health Care (BIHAM) in November 2022 as lecturer and scientific collaborator for the master’s program in Pharmacy.
He graduated from the University of Basel and obtained his master’s degree and federal diploma as a pharmacist in 2012. He completed his PhD (2013-2016) in the laboratory of Prenatal Medicine at the University of Bern (Prof. D. Surbek, PD Dr. A. Schöberlein) and prolonged his research work as a Postdoc in the same laboratory for one year. During that time, he also worked in a community pharmacy in the canton of Basel-Landschaft.
From 2017 until 2020 he then worked for a pharmaceutical company as Medical Information and Affairs Manager where he was mainly in charge of creating scientific content in various medical fields (iron deficiency, affective disorders, IBD, HRT, UTI, etc.) to answer medical inquiries as well as for teaching purposes either for internal employees or health care professionals.

In 2020 he went back to being a pharmacist in the canton of Vaud where he currently is enrolled in a FPH program to become specialized in community pharmacy.  Since then, he has obtained a FPH Certificate in Vaccination and Blood Sampling as well as a Certificate of Advance Studies (CAS) in Clinical Pharmacy (2021-2022). His main tasks in the pharmacy are daily business as well as production of non-sterile and sterile drugs.
